And for my english courses (most of them)... in English, of course!!!!
Un saludo a todos
Mª Carmen Fernández.

ALGEBRA
INTRODUCTION TO FORMULAS:
In algebra, a letter can be used to represent a number that you do not know. This gives us algebraic terms, like 2x and 5y.
When algebraic terms are put together by mathematical operations such as + and - we get an algebraic expression, like 2x + 5y +3z.
We can simplify algebraic expressions by collecting 'like terms'.

FRACTIONS - 1
1.-FRACTIONS
DO YOU KNOW WHAT IS A FRACTION? READ THIS PAGE:
IMPROPER FRACTIONS:
Answer these questions in your notebook:
- How do you say “numerador” in English?
- How do you say “denominador” in English?
2.-EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS
Read this website and copy in your notebook what are equivalent fractions.
Remember:
TO OBTEIN EQUIVALENT FRACTIONS:
- In order to obtein another fraction equivalent to the one given, we only have to multiply or divide its terms (numerator and denominator) by the same number.
The
product of the numerator of a fraction by the denominator of
the other must have the same value in both cases.
That is the same than saying "We "cross-multiply" its terms.
Do the following exercises about equivalent fractions:
2. Do the following test and copy the results into your notebook.
3.- TO CANCEL OR SIMPLIFY A FRACTION
4.- COMPARING FRACTIONS
1. Read the following website
2. Below the page you will find 10 exercises. Do and copy in your notebook these exercises:

DECIMAL NUMBERS
1. DECIMAL NUMERICAL SYSTEM
1. Read the following paragraph
When you divide the unit relating to the base of ten, you can use the decimal notation to represent these quantities
- A tenth is each of the parts obtained by dividing the unit into ten equal parts. It is 1:10 = 0.1
- A hundredth is each of the parts obtained by dividing the unit into a hundred equal parts, that is, a tenth into ten parts. It is 1:100 = 0.01
- A thousandth is each of the parts obtained by dividing the unit into a thousand equal parts, that is, a tenth into a hundred parts or a hundredth into ten parts. It is 1:1000 = 0.001
2. Write down in your notebook the meaning of the words: Tenth, hundredth and thousandth and the Spanish definition.
2. READING DECIMALS IN ENGLISH
1. Read the following paragraph
2. Write down in your notebook the following numbers in the way you will read them in English:
- 15.305
- 0.23
- 134.478
- 0.0087
3. ORDERING DECIMAL NUMBERS
1. Read the following paragraph
Ordering decimals means putting them in order from smallest to largest or from largest to smallest.
- Line up the decimal points.
- Compare the digits in each column, starting on the left.Write down place value headings if it helps you.
- Below we are comparing 0.459 and 0.495 to see which is bigger.
0.459 and 0.495
Both numbers have 0 units. So look in the tenths column.
Both numbers have 4 tenths. So look in the hundredths column.
0.495 has 9 in the hundredths column whereas 0.459 only has 5 in the hundredths column. (There is no need in this example to compare the thousandths column.)So 0.495 is bigger than 0.459.
2.- In your notebook compare the numbers 6.603 and 6.63 using the same procedure but explain it in Spanish
3.- Do the interactive exercise below
4. ROUNDING DECIMAL NUMBERS
1. Read the following paragraph
2. Open the following page and click the option number 3: (Rounding Decimal Numbers - Tenths, Hundredths, Thousandths Place)
3.- Do the rounding exercises that you will find in the worksheet. Copy the exercise in your notebook. (You can also print the page and do it in the same sheet).

1º ESO. TEMA 3.
